What is Appearing for the Cycle?
In baseball, Appearing for the Cycle is the accomplishment of one batter who has a walk, sacrifice bunt, sacrifice fly, and hit by pitch, in the same game.
Is this a real statistic or did you just make this up?
I made it up in 2020, but it is based on real statistics. (See also "Saint Cycle" for a similar but different stat introduced by Kelsey McKinney.)

Why those four outcomes?
Those are four different ways a player can have a Plate Appearance without an At Bat.
Why don't they count as At Bats?
Major League Baseball (MLB) does not count them as At Bats so that the player's batting average doesn't suffer for having a positive outcome while not getting a hit.
Are there other ways?
Yes, defensive interference, for example by the catcher, counts as a Plate Appearance. The batter is awarded first base without an At Bat. I do not count that since it is not an offensive statistic.
How do you figure out who Appears for the Cycle?
I use data made available by Retrosheet at retrosheet.org. I use my own custom program to parse the newest data when it is made available annually after the previous season ends.
Has anyone ever Appeared for the Cycle?
Yes, eleven players between 1910 and 2025 have Appeared for the Cycle. Most recently, Liam Hicks on the Miami Marlins Appeared for the Cycle in 2025. That was the first Cycle in 35 years. I do not have statistics from before 1910.
How often does someone come close?
About 10-20 players every season have three out of the four.
